"A representative of President Yanukovych's Party left his brand new Porsche 911 Turbo S to suffer the angry mob after leaving the car unattended in a public open area. Within minutes of the car being left alone protesters swarmed the vehicle and attacked it with wooden sticks and using metal shields against it."
Would they have been slightly more forgiving if he would of done the more sensible thing and opted for the 30 grand cheaper 991 Turbo?

attacking a car 101:

what structural points do they need to cut to quickly remove the engine compartment once it's on fire? Maybe they'll be courteous enough to turn it over for easy access. waste not..

Left unattended probably doesn't mean he left it unlocked with the keys in it.

Yep, some countries allow one set of plates for 2 cars. Also in some Eastern European countries they take your plates and that counts as giving you a parking ticket. You have to go to the police department to pick it up and pay the fine. I sent my Honda pilot to Europe and it has rusted out stripped bolts holding the plates so I just park wherever I want. It's bigger then the tow truck so no issues.

I don't see what the problem is. The 'lightweight window' package is a $5k optional extra from Porsche but these nice protestors are installing it for him, free of charge!

Jesus Christ the commentariot lives under a rock. You guys realize that ukraine is undergoing an uprising and the government has turned violent? I know I'd be pretty pissed if the government has been violating the constitution (and not like the way right wing nuts complain about over here, but really, egregiously violating it) for the sake of themselves and the russians, then kills my countrymen when they go to the capital to protest peacefully about it. This porsche is a symbol of that and that's why they're destroying it.
Fucks sake get some context before you run your mouth
![]() 02/22/2014 at 20:17 |

Haha good point.
I just feel bad for he car. It would be better to wreck it going too fast than it would be to beat it up. It's not the poor car's fault that the gov is corrupt.
At least it wasn't a GT3 RS 4.0. That would have been a real travesty

EF that guy for a ridiculous paycheck in a small country like that to be able to buy a car that expensive, then I thought maybe he already had money and just wanted to make his country better... THEN! I thought he's just getting in the government to be able to make more money! Or not... On to my american day tra la la la

I put an extra set of washers on my license plate frame screws (It's the only thing bolted to the car with a quick release for the plate itself) so it wouldn't fall off this easily, but otherwise they do.
![]() 02/22/2014 at 23:39 |

He's just a representative for the guy whose house they raided, so probably not. Even if they had the keys though it makes more sense as a protest against corruption in government to destroy the sports car that tax dollars presumably paid for rather than one person stealing it.

But at the same time, its not the poor Porsche's fault its owner is a d-bag. Mob mentality notwithstanding, thats about $200k of their taxes that are now not only down the drain, but unrecoverable now that it's destroyed.
Edit, yes it's petty compared to all the other damage resulting from this uprising, but still, we're Jalops. We nearly boycotted a band for torching 25yr old SAABs which they legally owned, this Turbo S was a guaranteed classic, destroyed by a mob. It kinda hurts.
![]() 02/23/2014 at 01:04 |

I am curious, how does a big American (I know it's a Japanese car, but the damn thing is made here, so I'm gonna say it's 'Murican) SUV do over there? Gas/convenience/peoplegawkingatyourcar.
![]() 02/23/2014 at 01:06 |

Vandalizing it is one thing, looting it of its parts is another. Even if the owner is a crook it does not mean it's okay to loot the car. There's a reason why laws are in place. Then again that didn't stop looters from ransacking places the stores when Katrina hit so I guess some people have no morality...
![]() 02/23/2014 at 01:28 |

Gas, it kills you at $10 a gallon and less then 15mpg city or hwy (I usually keep it around 105 mph). Probably the only reason I'm going to sell it. Parts suck to get over there but I think I found a trick to get most of the consumables. It's a honda so it really only needs consumables. It's rarer then a Bugatti over there but I've only seen a few people gawk at it and that's mainly because I still run Illinois plates on it. I did a trip (3000 miles) around Europe in it with 6 people and luggage so convenience is great, it's big but handles well for it's size and has plenty of acceleration with 0-60 @ 5.9. It's not to big where it doesn't fit on the small roads but it's much bigger then the other cars which gives you a great sense of safety especially in Eastern Europe. I'll post something on it tomorrow now that I have the idea.

I was misunderstood, I wish it was the representative that was beaten and not the poor car. I'm a car guy and when I see a brand new, awesome Turbo S being beaten, it pisses me off.
Hope that clears everything up. Sorry guys.

Did I say that? No. The sensible people aren't out smashing up Politicians 911's. They are the ones inside, not rioting and not getting shot. By all means, protest.. But does it have to be done by rioting and smashing up cars? That's always been a good solution hasn't it!.. Oh wait..
P.s. Calling a 911 turbo a 'stupid machine' on Jalopnik isn't a great idea. Its probably one of the best pieces of automotive engineering our world has ever seen, so give it some credit.
![]() 02/23/2014 at 16:59 |

They didn't really have that option. He fled. And the car was bought with their tax money. So I'd have a hard time telling them no.

It's a machine, it can't control itself autonomously, and therefore a stupid machine. I make a living from engineering cars and I've been on this site for 6 years.. I have no qualms about putting down a hunk of metal when it comes to human life and dignity.
Do you even understand what's happening in Ukraine? You sound so out of touch with the reality of the situation that my only conclusion is that you have zero clue what's actually happening over there and why senseless people are smashing up some politicians 911.
Ukraine is undergoing an uprising, that's just one push away from full on revolution, and in which case violently addressing people in power has been a good solution for thousands of years
![]() 02/24/2014 at 00:07 |

10 dollars a gallon?! Man, I'm sorry. Each fill up must be a chunk of your paycheck being turned into fossil fuel and then burned. And if you plan to sell it... do you think a fellow European would buy it? I mean, I know they like to make do with what they have (ie economical hatchback) but a Pilot to them would be like a 15 passenger E250 to us, I'm assuming haha. Also, what do you plan on getting?!
![]() 02/24/2014 at 00:16 |

I'm considering some type of diesel Mercedes but I am considering a Quattroporte (that sound makes it worth it)... No no ones buying it at 5k under blue book so I'm most likely going to ship it back here. It's really more like every time I hear vtec I'm throwing $5 out the window every second. I don't live there so it's not that bad, I just visit every summer for a month or two and almost every winter. But spending $50 a day on gas just doing daily things sucks, but I really never have to worry about parking. I know a guy that has a h2, viper, and z06 there. There always parked and never driven for a reason...
